Dale Mills, September 13, 2018: Three times Hyundai replaced the tranny in my new 2011 Elantra Touring and each one lasted about 55,000 kms. But when the third one gave out at 167,000, Hyundai refused to help. There was no consideration given to an obviously faulty design: their bottom line was "Too far past warranty." I didn't want to pay them for a "new" one for fear of just having to do it all over again every two or three years, so I went to several places looking for an alternative. Some didn't even check the dipstick. it was all cut and dried in two minutes flat: gamble on the wrecker for $800 plus $600 installation or get the faulty one rebuilt at three times the price or even more. But the maximum black book value of the whole car in perfect condition was only $4800. But Skyway was different: Eric spent most of an hour at no charge investigating and diagnosing. But in the end he said he still had to take it apart to know exactly what to do. So what now? What if he takes it apart and wants $5000 to put it back together? This happened to me once before and we seniors constantly experience attempts to rip us off. Should I refuse to pay, I would have no car. But he seemed honest and came recommended by a friend so I went with it. Eric discovered that a certain part in the tranny was made of too soft a metal and wore out too fast. Hyundai would not supply the part; you have to buy the whole transmission. But Eric found someone who made replacements out of stronger metal. Then he rebuilt the tranny and it runs like a charm. I expect it's now better than factory and I have good hopes of getting a long life out of the car. Honesty and skill are assets to really be appreciated in this dying world. Eric provides knowledgeable and excellent service at a fair price. I am thankful to God for him and I would recommend Skyway to anyone.
